A retirement party was held on Tuesday October 19th, 2010 at The Dante Club for 15 members of the Somerville Fire Department who had retired during 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Local 76 President Jay Colbert mentioned that the 15 retirees had combined to provide over 500 years of service and dedication to the Somerville Fire Department.  While most of the retirees were able to work a full career with the department, there were a few who were forced to retire due to illness or injury.

Somerville Alderman John Connolly spoke on behalf of the Board of Aldermen in attendance at the retirement party and thanked the 15 members, the previous retirees in attendance and the current members of the Somerville Fire Department for their service to the City.

Over 150 past and present members of the department packed The Dante Club for a great evening honoring the 15 members.

Deputy Chief Bob Lyons provided the entertainment for the evening with his roast of the 15 retired members.

Firefighter Billy Powers with Local 76 President Jay Colbert and Vice President Steve Layton.  Billy Powers provided 40 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.

Lt. Wally McLean provided 30 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.

Firefighter Marty Trahan provided 25 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.

Lt. Dick Dobson provided 36 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.

Captain Mike Heck provided 32 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.

Firefighter Bill Fowler provided 32 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.

District Chief Bill Hurley provided 36 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.

Senior Fire Alarm Operator Wayne Kennedy provided 31 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.

Firefighter Tom Carroll provided 38 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.

Lt. Jim Keenan accepted on behalf of his brother, Deputy Chief Steve Keenan who provided 32 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.

Lt. Joe Galvin provided 41 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.

Firefighter Larry Sullivan provided 32 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.

Firefighter Rich Casey provided 24 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.

Firefighter Jim Burns provided 37 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.

Firefighter Cindy Snow-Murphy provided 12 years of service to the Somerville Fire Department.
