The fire at the Church of Glorious Hope took place on February 8th, 1975.  The Church was located at 154 Sycamore Street in the Winter Hill section of Somerville.  Group 4 was working at the time of this fire.  This fire went to 4 Alarms and involved a large church, which was fully involved and the fire also spread to seven adjacent dwellings. Five additional engine companies responded above the fourth alarm.

Heavy fire conditions fully engulf the large wood framed church which was located at the corner of Sycamore Street and Sycamore Terrace.

Firefighters work to save numerous exposed dwellings surrounding the heavily involved church.

Looking down Sycamore Street toward the corner of Browning Road. Fire has extended into multiple exposures.

The audio file is from tapes that were used in a voice activated recorder. Prior to Somerville Fire going to a UHF frequency, they operated without a repeater. Therefore some of the radio traffic was not picked by the voice activated recorder. This file has been edited to remove some of the dead air that would take up alot of time.

Note: You will need to have Quick Time Player installed on your computer to listed to the Audio Files.  If you do not have Quick Time Player and would like to download it for free CLICK HERE

Because of the size of these files, it may take a minute or so before the audio starts playing.

For reference, "301" was the Chief of the Department.  "302" and "303" were Chief Officers - referred to as "C-2" and "C-3" present day.
